Style sanctuary

As a place to relax, rest and sleep, it’s perhaps difficult to think of your bedroom as a ‘hard-working’ space in your home. In fact, the bedroom is a multi-tasking room where cleverly designed storage is essential to ensure superb functionality as well as a restful feel.

We all understand that clutter is the enemy of relaxation, so a sleek and minimalist look in the bedroom is key – but when your bedroom doubles up as a place to store clothes, shoes, and accessories, as well as being a place for dressing, reading and even occasionally working, it’s easy to see how it can become cluttered and unsoothing.

So if your inner sanctum is disappearing under piles of clothes, shoes, books and other detritus, you know it’s time for a change. Here at Martello, we’re experts in devising bespoke, stylish solutions so you can live your most tranquil life from dawn ‘til dusk.

Let’s talk clothes
Once upon a time, this would have been directed primarily at the lady of the house, but with the modern man becoming increasingly style conscious, there’s a battle for wardrobe space happening in bedrooms across the country!

Proper organization for your clothes is a real investment in streamlined living. With everything stored in easy reach, you can see exactly what you have, what you wear, and what you don’t. This not only makes it easier to find what you need, but also helps you pull outfits together effortlessly, saving precious time on busy weekday mornings.
Having all your clothes stored neatly in one room also means you’ll find it easier to envisage how the individual pieces work together – and as every good fashionista knows, establishing a capsule wardrobe is critical to achieving a pulled-together look for any occasion! When you can see all your clothes in front of you, it’s easier to work out which items work together and which are superfluous, so you’re less likely to waste cash on impulse buys you’ll never wear in the future.

What type of storage?
There are various options for bedroom and dressing room storage, and at Martello we aim to create a room that’s as individual as you are. A combination of open and concealed storage, with space for both large and small items, is ideal for most lifestyles.

Open hanging storage can be super useful in a dressing room, enabling you to instantly find what you’re looking for, and it looks great if you take the time to hang clothes in order of length and colour for visual appeal. Open shelves work well for shoes and prized accessories, or furnish them with attractive storage boxes and baskets if you’d prefer to keep your things hidden away.

If you’re not lucky enough to have a dressing room, we recommend using mostly concealed storage so that you can shut the doors and bring immediate calm to the room for relaxation and sleep.

Another essential element of any bedroom or dressing room design is a vanity area with storage for cosmetics, jewellery and other small items that can quickly create clutter on surfaces and window ledges. Sometimes the simplest designs can have the biggest impact and you’ll be amazed at how some clever drawer dividers and pull-out storage can keep everything to hand, yet hidden away in an instant for sleek, chic interiors.

Last but not least, don’t forget mirrors. You’ll need a vanity mirror you can sit or stand at, with storage for make-up and accessories at hand, and good lighting – if you can’t locate this in a spot with natural light, you’ll need to install vanity lighting either side, or choose a lit mirror.

For dressing, you’ll need at least one full-length mirror (though we recommend two, for his & hers style showdowns!). Mirrored doors on wardrobes work brilliantly if space is limited, and can help create the illusion of a bigger room.
